Sight words are part of First grade expectations. They not only need to be able to read them but write them correctly as well. To help give them some motivation to work on them independently both at school and at home, the whole first grade is participating in reading the words across the rainbow. All the sight words have been divided among the 7 colors of the rainbow. They will start off with red words and as they master those, they will get their name on that color on the wall and begin working on the next color. Your help and support on this is greatly appreciated. Give them opportunities to practice them each day or week. If you want to practice the specific color check the word lists below and see the words for that color. ABCya is a website that has some fun games with sight words in general and can be found on the Fern Bluff website.(Ask your child!)
